Since April 2, the Ministry of Public Security’s Office for NGO Management has been posting updates on its work to a WeChat account. The following are translations of some recent posts. We’ll do these translations frequently and post them in our “Latest” section.
April 25, 2017:
The Sichuan Health and Family Planning Commission held a meeting on April 20 to study the implementation of the Foreign NGO Law.
The Qinghai Public Security Bureau’s (PSB) Foreign NGO Management Office formed a publicity small group and held a publicity event in Ningxia’s central square to hand out related information and answer questions.
The Chongqing PSB reports that on April 19 it registered its first Foreign NGO representative office, for the Australian NGO “Charitable Aid Service Company” [ChinaFile translation].
April 27, 2017:
The Tianjin PSB presented registration certificates to its first batch of registered foreign NGO representative offices on April 27. The seven foreign NGOs were: Pop’s Foundation (United States), American International Chamber of Commerce (United States), Kobe Center for International Cooperation and Exchange (Japan) [ChinaFile translation], All Japan Seamen’s Union (Japan), International Silk Road Trade and Culture Association [ChinaFile translation], World Vision (Hong Kong), China Cable Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong).
On April 26, Beijing approved the registration of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (Switzerland).
On April 27, Hunan approved the registration of the China-Britain Business Council.
The head of Gansu’s Public Security Bureau (who is also a member of the Gansu Province Chinese Communist Party Standing Committee and the head of the provincial Politics and Law Commission) “inspected and gave guidance to” the province’s Entry-Exit Administration and Foreign NGO Service Window staff.
