As reported by Chinanews.com, on March 26 the Guangdong Public Security Bureau (PSB) Foreign NGO Management Office gave six foreign NGOs a “2017 Exceptional Representative Office Award.” These foreign NGOs were: The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong), The Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Tin Ka Ping Foundation (Hong Kong), Taiwan Trade Center, Canada-China Children’s Health Foundation, and Delegations of German Industry & Commerce.
An additional 10 organizations—Fuhui Charity Foundation (Hong Kong), Hong Kong PHAB Association, Hua’er Adoption Center World Children’s Fund (United States), Green Action Charity Foundation (Hong Kong), Sowers Action (Hong Kong), China Care Fund Limited (Hong Kong), Rotary Club of Hong Kong Sunrise (Charities) Limited, Care and Concern Action Limited (Hong Kong), The International Alliance of Urolithiasis (origin unknown), and Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited—received a “2017 Exceptional Activity Program Award.”
As of April 9, 2018, Guangdong had registered 15 foreign NGO representative offices. Seven of these are trade-related groups sponsored by the provincial Department of Commerce; four of the offices receiving awards were trade- or economic-focused. A total of 108 temporary activities have Guangdong listed as a part of their areas of operation (including activities taking place nationwide); 95 of those activities took or are taking place in Guangdong only. The Guangdong-only activities most frequently focus on education and poverty alleviation; these thematic areas of emphasis are also reflected in the activities selected for awards.
